Doing business from the surf.

Passionate surfers Mark and Vicky Wraith moved to Lanzarote and set up Zoco, a business offering surfing holidays around the world. Setting up in a converted garage, all they needed? A computer, internet connection and Skype.

The Zoco website features a Skype online number. Vicky says this has helped to make Zoco a success: “We've definitely got clients who have chosen us simply because we use Skype. People see that they can either call us for free if they have Skype, or for a small cost from a landline”.

Zoco uses instant messaging to talk to customers, and sends itineraries and other documents over Skype, too. Plus using Skype Credit to call landlines helps them keep a close eye on the cents. And the euros.

Importantly, Skype keeps Zoco mobile. The team travels extensively, finding new locations for surfing schools. Having Skype means the Zoco team stay in contact wherever they are in the world. Bali. Morocco. It’s a hard life.

Vicky says Skype has made their business possible: “Without Skype we couldn’t function as we do – we’re mobile, not tied down to the office, and it has saved us a huge amount of money … without Skype we simply wouldn’t have been able to make the amount of calls that we do.”
